WHO WE ARE

Since September 1996, UNIFOUR Church has been a beacon of God’s love for the community surrounding Catawba County.

Our History

A small group of people were hungry for fellowship, faith and God’s unconditional love. They began to meet in a home to pray, study the bible and share their faith. In a few weeks, others joined the movement of love. A conference room at Gateway Conference Center, Hickory, NC was rented and regular services were held. It was a true grassroots effort led by people hungry for worship and love. After six months, wisdom guided them to contact a minister in another town to help them organize. He provided guidance that helped them to become a non-profit church registered with the state of North Carolina. From a handful of folks in a home, this movement was established on September 15, 1996, with 21 members.

The movement of love adopted the name “Unifour Christian Fellowship Church” (UNIFOUR Church). UNIFOUR Church gets its name from the geographical name of the four-county area that surrounds the church. Continuing to draw people from the surrounding areas, the church moved to a building on HWY 70 in Hickory. In 2001, with over 100 members, the church prayed and purchased 7 acres in Newton, NC. The church campus now stands on this property. Included in the purchase was a house that serves as our parsonage. In 2004, we built a 4400-square-foot sanctuary and fellowship hall. And all of us will say we do mean “we” built the current structure. Without a pastor, once again our body demonstrated this was a grassroots effort of love. On October 17, 2021, we called our current Senior Pastor, Rev. Leo Jones-Morton. We remain committed to sharing God’s love with everyone and reaching far beyond the walls of our building. Our ADA-compliant playground is a wonderful addition to our thriving Parent’s Day Out Ministry and Girl Scouts Troop, which meets on-site and is also open for the public’s use. We recently fenced in a dog park beside the playground open for members and public use. We celebrate the faithfulness of our members in that endeavor and continue the story of sharing God’s inclusive love with everyone, no matter their story.

Today, UNIFOUR Church is a vibrant church that offers a mix of contemporary worship style, with a twist of traditional music. We offer a wonderful children’s program under the direction of April Herron, the Children’s Ministry Coordinator that includes Children’s Church, a Girl Scout Troop, Vacation Bible School and Parent’s Day Out Ministry. We also started a Teen Ministry called Wildfire 226. We offer a Coffee Fellowship time at 10:00 AM, and Worship Service begins at 10:30 AM. Come test out our hospitality and see why UNIFOUR Church is the place to be.

Christianity did not begin with a confession. It began with an invitation into friendship, into creating a new community, into forming relationships based on love and service.
